For those less familiar with Studio Ghibli, it's a Japanese animation studio that was founded in 1985 by two of animation’s greatest creators Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Known as Japan’s premiere animation studio, its name comes from the word the Italians used for their Saharan scouting planes in World War II, which derived from the Libyan “sirocco”, a hot wind blowing through the Sahara Desert. Studio Ghibli was to blow a new wind into the Japanese animation industry and indeed it has!
With a creative force of many talented directors, animators and storytellers brought under the brilliant supervision of Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki, Studio Ghibli has made many animation masterpieces. The well known Princess Mononoke and Academy Award Winner Spirited Away are some examples of the very high quality of anime (animated movies) the studio creates which have been praised for their originality, dazzling animation and epic storytelling. They consistently beat all kinds of movies in box office revenues in Japan and have received numerous awards. Needless to say their films have not only been respected and loved by all Japanese, anime fans and film lovers, but are loved by people from all over the world.
