Released on the 29th of July 2006 and with a length of 110 minutes is Gedo Senki, better known in the west as Tales from Earthsea. Miyazaki Goro, son of master animation director Miyazaki Hayao, made his director's debut with this fantasy story based on the original Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin.

"Earthsea", a world consisting of islands encircled by sea. Hero Arren was a prince of Enlad who, after stabbing his father the king to death, has left his country. As he was chased into the shadow of mystery, he is constantly insecure and frightened. Eventually, Arren meets Archmage Haitaka (Ged) a wise man who realized the balance of the world is collapsing and on a journey to search the reason of this disaster. The two become travel companions on a journey to find out that all disasters are due to the Great Wizard Cob, a wizard who once already defeated Haitaka (Ged) before.

During its release Gedo Senki was given some interesting merchandise. Already having got a lot of items, GhibliWorld.com will try to post the nicest ones one at a time. For now we'll start with the following items:
- The Art of Gedo Senki
- Gedo Senki Movie Posters
- Gedo Senki Ekonte

The Art of Gedo Senki
The Art of Gedo Senki is another fine edition to be part of the Studio Ghibli “The Art of...” book collection. It’s published by Tokuma Shoten and was first released on the 3rd of August 2006. The book is paperbound, but printed on high quality glossy paper. With a total of 253 pages, it contains a variety of sketches, storyboards, background information, and cel reproductions (with backgrounds). As you can see by the pictures below it's a simple "must buy"! It can be bought for price around 2900 yen, for example at Amazon and Yesasia (ISBN: 4-19-810011-X). Following are some nice pictures from the book.

Gedo Senki Movie Posters
Before and during Gedo Senki's cinematic release in Japan there were several official movie posters that were released. The one in the picture below is Gedo Senki's second official movie poster and is the only one which GhibliWorld.com has framed right now. Just lovely!

Gedo Senki Ekonte
The Gedo Senki Ekonte (ISBN 4-19-862190-X) is a storyboard book consisting out of 437 pages. It was released August 3, 2006 and it’s something for the true collector (this because, just like on all other Ghibli DVDs, the Gedo Senki DVD already has a storyboard feature as well). It can be bought for 2,835 Yen at Amazon.
