A wonderful Yoshfumi Kondou Art Book: Published by Tokuma in 1998, “Futo Furikaeru To”, a.k.a “When I turn around", is one of our favourites out of the Studio Ghibli Book Collection. The book acts as a collection of sketches published on a purely posthumous basis by Yoshifumi Kondou.
And this is exactly why this book is so special > Yoshifumi Kondou. Yoshifumi Kondou (born March 31, 1950) is one of GhibliWorld.com's favorite Ghibli artists who unfortunately passed away in January 1998. Not only did he direct the wonderful “Mimi wo Sumaseba”, a.k.a. “Whisper of the Heart”, he worked with Miyazaki and Takahata for many years on almost everyone of the Studio Ghibli films. More info about him in a special to be made somewhere in the feature, but in the meantime check out Nausicaa.net for more info. Anyway, wasn’t this special about the book “Futo Furikaeru To”? Well, here’s a picture of its cover.
In 1992, Kondou started to carry out "rough sketches" inspired by various moments foreseen in his everyday life. Starting in the autumn of 1993 they have been published in the Japanese animation magazine Animage, Yoshifumi Kondou immortalises the spectacle of the street, with illustrations of young children, teenagers, pedestrians and even of animals, in their everyday life. These scenes, sometimes incongruous, always tender, show us a surprising capacity to seize the small magic moments of the life, in spite of their unfinished aspect.
At the end of this page you can find various pictures made from the book so you can take a better look at its wonderful art. Click to enlarge > your browser will probably reframe them, so click at the lower right corner of each picture to enlarge a second time. Anyway, if you also happen to think this book worth the money and you want to add it to your collection, you can buy the book for example at Amazon.co.jp at a price of 2,415 Yen. If it’s out of stock, I’d suggest searching the internet using it’s ISBN number: 4-19-860832-6.
That’s it for this special. All you have to do is enjoy the pictures below. Please remember that various of the used pictures are original pictures that come with a copyright, so please do not put these online anywhere else or distribute them in any other ways! They're posted here only for the purpose of encouraging you to visit it and encourage interest in, and discussion about the works of Studio Ghibli!
